Kabul — Margalla News: Former US special representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has criticised Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's remarks at the UN General Assembly calling for the fundamental rights of Afghans, especially women and girls, to be respected.
Ariana News reported that Khalilzad wrote on X that Pakistan's policies over the past three decades raised questions about Islamabad's commitment to Afghan welfare.
He cited Pakistan's past policies and the treatment of Afghan refugees while challenging Sharif's remarks.
Khalilzad also said Afghanistan and Pakistan need much better relations and that a "reset is necessary."
Sharif had told the UN General Assembly that the fundamental rights of the Afghan people, especially women and girls, must be respected. He also repeated Pakistan's allegations that armed groups use Afghan territory to attack Pakistan, allegations Afghan authorities have repeatedly rejected.
Khalilzad's criticism represents his own political and diplomatic assessment.
