Islamabad — The International Atomic Energy Agency's International Physical Protection Advisory Service (IPPAS) has completed a 12-day review of Pakistan. This was the first IPPAS mission to the country, examining legislation, regulations and practical arrangements for protecting nuclear material and facilities.
According to an October 10 Dawn report, international experts described Pakistan's physical nuclear security system as strong while recommending further improvements to regulations and procedures. The mission took place at Pakistan's invitation and was hosted by the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
The assessment should not be interpreted as a declaration that every possible nuclear security risk has been eliminated. Implementing recommendations and continued oversight by relevant institutions will be the measures of long-term safety standards.
