Lahore — The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) says it arrested 281 people during raids on seven allegedly illegal call centres. Those detained included 260 Pakistanis and 21 foreign nationals, and 20 women were included in the total.

Agency Additional Director Atif Amir said on October 9 that the networks under investigation were suspected of involvement in financial fraud, online harassment and other cybercrimes. Mobile phones, computers, laptops and SIM cards were seized during the operations and were undergoing forensic examination.

An arrest does not amount to proof of guilt. Responsibility can only be determined through evidence against individual suspects, formal charges and court proceedings.
