Kabul — Afghan Minister of Industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi and Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi discussed electricity supplies and possibilities for industrial and economic cooperation on October 8. According to the Afghan ministry, the talks included potential exports of approximately 2,000 megawatts of electricity.

A Pajhwok report said the discussions also covered power-generation equipment, water purification technology, joint investment and trade links. The Iranian ambassador attended, and invitations were extended for further exhibitions and contacts.

These were discussions, not a completed electricity purchase agreement or immediate delivery of 2,000 megawatts. The financing terms, energy infrastructure and expected schedule have not yet been detailed.
