Kabul — Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a proposed rail corridor linking Central Asia to Pakistani ports through Afghanistan. The development was reported on October 2, 2026, and is being included in this recent review of regional development.

According to Pajhwok, the memorandum covers a joint working group, technical and economic feasibility studies, and possible logistics and investment arrangements. The route could provide access through Afghanistan to Karachi and Gwadar, expanding potential maritime trade opportunities for Central Asia.

Signing a memorandum, establishing financial feasibility and completing construction are three separate stages. Until the cost, full route, construction timeline, financing commitments and long-term arrangements between the participating countries are established, it would be inaccurate to describe a new train service as operating.
