Nimroz — Following discussions on transit cooperation between Afghanistan and Iran, Afghan officials say the daily number of Afghan trucks permitted to return from Iran has increased.
TOLOnews quoted the Nimroz provincial land transport department as saying that previously about 100 trucks a day were allowed to return, but that the two sides have now agreed to raise the daily allowance to as many as 300.
Some drivers interviewed in the report said they had previously waited for weeks before being able to return but that the new arrangement has shortened delays. They also raised concerns about the safety of their vehicles and cargo.
Faster transit could reduce the costs faced by Afghan traders. The actual benefit will depend on consistent implementation, adequate border facilities and transport security.
