Kabul — Afghanistan's electricity utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, says approximately 70% of work on the country's portion of the CASA-1000 electricity transmission project has been completed. The company says it intends to continue construction on the remaining sections.
According to TOLOnews, the target is to complete the project by the end of Afghan solar year 1406, around March 2028. The project is designed to transfer electricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan.
The report says Afghanistan is expected to receive 300 megawatts of electricity under the scheme. Afghan officials also estimate potential future annual transit revenues of between $60 million and $65 million.
That income is contingent on the project being completed and becoming operational. Its completion date, electricity volumes and actual financial benefits will only be clear after further progress.
