Islamabad, October 13, 2026 — Following the imposition of governor's rule and a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reports have emerged that an 11-member committee led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will monitor the province's governance and security affairs.
According to Dawn, a source close to the prime minister said the committee would review administrative and security developments in the province each day and report to the prime minister. The report made clear that the decision to form the committee was informal and that no official notification had been issued at that point.
The reported committee should be distinguished from the provincial advisory council established to assist Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. That council had already begun assuming its responsibilities.
The federal government describes governor's rule as necessary on security grounds, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and various legal and political circles have questioned its constitutional justification. Further official notifications and parliamentary proceedings will be important in assessing developments.
