Afghan health ministry calls patient safety a shared responsibility

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health says patient safety is a shared responsibility involving doctors, nurses, families, institutions, the media and the wider community. Pajhwok reported that Deputy Minister for Health Services Abdul Wali Haqqani told a public-awareness meeting that every patient has the right to essential and safe health services during treatment. He urged health workers to follow safety standards in diagnosis, medication, treatment and care. The ministry also encouraged families and citizens to seek accurate information about illnesses, treatment and patient rights and to cooperate with medical staff. Officials said stronger public awareness could improve safety and confidence in the health system.
