Afghanistan’s national electricity company and Turkmen officials have discussed accelerating work on a 500-kilovolt power transmission line and advancing several related electricity projects.

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat said its chief, Abdul Haq Hamkar, met Murad Artikov, head of the TAP project, and an accompanying delegation in Kabul. The talks also covered remaining work on the Noor-ul-Jihad substation in Herat, electricity supply to Bala Murghab district in Badghis, and implementation of the wider TAP project.

The Turkmen delegation expressed interest in faster completion and said an initial roadmap was expected to be approved soon. The transmission line is intended to increase Afghanistan’s capacity to import electricity from Turkmenistan.

Pajhwok, Bakhtar and Ariana News have all reported recent Afghan-Turkmen discussions on the project. No new final completion date or total project cost was announced in the latest statements.
