Cambodia PM says country will not be safe haven for online scam networks

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said his country would not become a safe haven for transnational online scam networks as he opened an international conference on combating cyberfraud in Phnom Penh. Delegates from more than a dozen countries, including the United States and China, are attending the event. Hun Manet said criminal syndicates would not be allowed to undermine Cambodia’s development or the livelihoods of its people. He called for stronger international cooperation, including real-time intelligence sharing, to disrupt cross-border fraud operations. Large online scam compounds, trafficking networks and financial-fraud operations across Southeast Asia have become a major regional law-enforcement challenge. The conference brings together governments, law-enforcement agencies, financial institutions, technology companies and other stakeholders to discuss cooperation against online scams.
