Afghan cyclist Fariba Hashimi finished seventh in the women’s individual time trial at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. The 23-year-old, who left Afghanistan after 2021 and is now based in Italy, said her participation carries meaning beyond the result and represents Afghan women on an international stage. Hashimi said she hopes her journey can encourage younger Afghan girls to pursue sport and eventually compete internationally. She and her sister Yulduz are both international cyclists and competed at the Paris Olympics. Her seventh-place finish in Nagoya adds another notable result to her international cycling career.
