Torrential rain brought by Typhoon Dujuan triggered landslides along Japan’s Pacific coast on September 22, killing at least two people and leaving four others missing, Reuters reported, citing public broadcaster NHK.
One of those killed was a woman in her 60s whose home in Yokosuka was engulfed by a mudslide. Landslides were also reported in parts of Kanagawa and Chiba prefectures, while rescue teams continued searching damaged areas.
Reuters reported that electricity supply was cut to nearly 50,000 homes as the storm disrupted communities along the Pacific coast.
The casualty figures remain provisional because rescue operations are still under way and authorities are assessing damage in affected areas.
Typhoon Dujuan was moving northeast away from Japan’s coast, but heavy-rain and landslide risks remained a concern in some locations as residents began clearing mud and debris.
The latest toll should therefore be treated as a developing figure rather than a final count.
