Jamaat-e-Islami began a protest march towards Islamabad on Sunday as part of its campaign against the petroleum levy. Party chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman addressed supporters at Karachi Cantonment Station before leaving by train, while the party said a road caravan had also set off for the capital. By the evening, the train-led convoy had reached Tando Adam after stopping in Hyderabad. Rehman demanded that the government withdraw the petroleum levy, arguing that doing so would reduce fuel prices. The party says protests on the issue are continuing in several cities and that the march will proceed through additional stops before reaching Islamabad.
