Pakistani authorities say security forces have completed a roughly 20-hour clearance operation after the deadly attack on the Kohat Police Lines compound, with eight attackers killed.
The assault began during Friday prayers when an explosives-laden vehicle detonated near a mosque inside the police compound and gunmen attempted to storm the facility. Police and security forces continued operations through the night.
The Associated Press, Dawn and Geo News reported the end of the operation and the death of eight attackers. Overall casualty totals have varied, so higher unsettled figures are not being treated as final. Multiple credible reports put the toll at at least 21 dead and more than 100 wounded.
Claims about responsibility and the attackers’ affiliations remain insufficiently settled to state as established fact.
