Outstanding automobile financing in Pakistan rose to about Rs393.3 billion in August from Rs386.3 billion in July, according to State Bank of Pakistan data, marking a 21st consecutive monthly increase.

Sales of cars, light commercial vehicles, pickups and vans totalled 15,558 units in August. That was 21% lower than July but 11% higher than a year earlier.

Cumulative sales in the first two months of FY2026-27 reached 35,376 units, about 41% higher than the same period a year earlier.

Dawn reported that industry participants linked the month-on-month sales decline partly to uncertainty over the next auto policy and to regional conditions affecting supply chains. The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association urged the government to clarify the policy framework.

Separate reports based on the central-bank data put August auto financing at roughly Rs393.3bn to Rs393.4bn. The small difference reflects rounding rather than a different underlying trend.
