Pakistan’s government says around 1.75 million people registered for the Prime Minister’s fuel-relief scheme between September 14 and 19, while a five-litre cap on subsidized petrol purchased against a single token has been removed.
Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima said on Saturday that motorcycles and three-wheelers accounted for more than 91 percent of registrations. She said about 1.49 million fuel tokens had been issued, while eligibility was also widened for older motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws.
The programme offers eligible users relief of Rs100 per litre within defined monthly or weekly limits. The government introduced the scheme to cushion lower-income consumers from high fuel prices linked to international energy-market disruption.
