Pakistan has called at the United Nations for Yemen’s Houthis to immediately halt attacks on merchant ships and seafarers in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, told a Security Council meeting that freedom of navigation and the safety of commercial shipping must be protected. He described attacks on shipping as a threat to maritime security, regional peace and trade.

The Pakistani envoy also reiterated Islamabad’s support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said disruption around strategic waterways including Bab al-Mandab and the Strait of Hormuz can affect global trade and energy flows.

This is an official Pakistani position; Dawn and Geo News separately reported the core details of the remarks at the UN.
