Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has stressed uninterrupted energy supplies and the safe, expeditious passage of commercial ships in a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the two ministers discussed the latest regional developments on Saturday. Dar said disruptions to maritime traffic and energy flows could affect developing economies and global supply chains. The two sides agreed to remain in close contact and to meet in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The call comes as tensions around key Gulf and Red Sea shipping routes increase supply and price risks for energy-importing countries including Pakistan. Islamabad has recently introduced fuel-conservation measures and targeted relief for some consumers.
