Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has formed a three-member committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ apostille and document-attestation system.

Geo News reported that the action followed its reporting on the system. The ministry’s apostille and attestation process is used by citizens seeking verified documents for educational, legal, immigration and other purposes in Pakistan and abroad.

Reports say Petroleum Secretary Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh will convene the committee, joined by Law Secretary Raja Naeem Akbar and Special Finance Secretary Qumar Sarwar Abbasi.

The committee has been asked to examine possible misuse or irregularities in the system, the relevant processes and the role of courier services involved. It is due to submit its findings within two weeks.

The opening of an inquiry does not itself establish wrongdoing. Any finding on whether irregularities occurred, their nature or who was responsible will depend on the committee’s investigation and subsequent official action.
