Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called for greater diplomatic coordination among members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation over the situation in the Palestinian territories, Arab News reported on September 22.
Speaking at a meeting of the OIC Committee of Six in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Dar called for coordinated action to protect Palestinians, safeguard the legal and historical status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque and oppose settlement expansion, settler violence and forced displacement.
He also said OIC countries should work through the United Nations and other international forums to support accountability for violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
These remarks represent Pakistan's diplomatic position. They do not amount to a new collective OIC decision or the adoption of a new enforcement mechanism.
Dar also referred to Palestinian-led reconstruction and governance arrangements for Gaza and called for implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The OIC meeting forms part of broader diplomatic activity at the UN General Assembly, where the war in Gaza, the West Bank and wider Middle East security remain major agenda items.
