Afghan Taliban forces and Pakistani troops exchanged fire for several hours along the border in Paktia province, according to Afghan local reporting and accounts attributed to Pakistani security sources. Afghan reports placed the fighting in the Zazi Aryob border area and said some homes were damaged, prompting some families to leave the immediate area. Pakistani security-source accounts also acknowledged cross-border firing but gave a different account of how the confrontation began. The competing accounts have not established who initiated the exchange. No independently verified casualty figure was available at the time of publication. Claims about incursions, the first shots and other operational details remain attributed to the sources making them.
