Saudi Arabia issued aerial-threat alerts covering Riyadh and other areas on Saturday, while smoke and flames were seen near the capital’s main airport.
Reuters reported that booms were heard in Riyadh before civil defence later gave the all-clear. It was not immediately clear what caused the smoke near the airport, and no major casualty toll was confirmed.
The Associated Press and Financial Times also reported the Saudi warnings. The episode comes amid heightened tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis.
