Business representatives in Khyber have renewed calls for the reopening of the Torkham border to commercial traffic, arguing that the prolonged closure has caused heavy losses to traders and workers on both sides of the route.
Dawn reported earlier in September that the Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industry urged authorities to separate bilateral trade from wider political and security disputes. The chamber said transporters, shopkeepers, labourers and customs-clearing businesses had all been affected.
The organisation cited large losses in exports, imports and provincial revenue during the closure. Those figures are claims by the chamber and have not been independently verified by Margalla News.
