Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, the members of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, are expected to hold emergency consultations in Riyadh next week to discuss regional security and an Iranian suggestion for political engagement with Yemen's Houthis.
Reuters reported on October 2 that Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Iran had proposed political engagement with the Houthis as a possible alternative to further military escalation. Dar described the idea as a goodwill suggestion rather than a formal offer and said it would be discussed by the pact members.
The three countries signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in August, including a collective-defence principle. Their military chiefs later met in September to discuss intelligence sharing, coordination and capability integration.
The precise level of participation at the coming emergency meeting has not yet been fully announced, so specific ministers or commanders are not being treated as confirmed participants unless officially named.
