Author Job TV Network Afghanistan Two senior security officials from Turkey and Qatar have met with senior Islamic Emirate officials during visits to Kabul and Kandahar. Ibrahim Kalin, head of Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization, and Hamad Khamis Al-Kubaisi, deputy secretary-general of Qatar’s National Security Council, held separate meetings with the defense minister, interior minister, deputy prime minister for economic affairs, intelligence chief and several other Islamic Emirate officials. Their discussions focused on expanding ties with Afghanistan, security cooperation and counter-narcotics efforts. They also discussed Afghanistan’s improved engagement and constructive role in the international community, coordination between the interior and defense ministries of Afghanistan and Turkey, as well as Afghanistan and Qatar, and several regional issues. Sediqullah Nusrat, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, said: “Both sides discussed expanding relations between Turkey and Afghanistan, development issues and regional matters.” Turkish media reported that the Turkish official also traveled to Kandahar, but no details about the visit have yet been reported by the Islamic Emirate. Military analyst Yousuf Amin Zazi said: “They held discussions with the security sector and are also said to have traveled to Kandahar. The purpose concerns security issues in the country, the region and the world. The discussions are about counterterrorism. Perhaps the region and the international community have decided that action should be taken against terrorism.” Political analyst Aziz Stanikzai said: “Their visit is neither economic nor political; rather, it is security- and intelligence-related. I think what Qatar wants from Afghanistan is a fight against extremism.” This is the first time that two senior security officials from Turkey and Qatar have traveled to Afghanistan. Previously, Reuters reported in Jawza 1402 that Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani visited Kandahar and met with the leader of the Islamic Emirate. They discussed end to Afghanistan’s international isolation, the lifting of restrictions on women’s education and employment, and counterterrorism efforts.
