Afghan boxer Amal Hamdam has advanced to the next round of the 20th Asian Games after defeating a Qatari opponent in the 60-kilogram weight category.
Afghanistan’s National Boxing Federation announced the result during the games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports said Afghanistan is represented by a three-member boxing team at the event.
The 20th Asian Games began on September 19, bringing together athletes from 45 Asian countries across 41 sports disciplines. Hamdam’s victory secured his place in the next stage of the boxing competition and added another positive result for the Afghan delegation.
Afghanistan is competing across several sports at the Games, with the boxing result coming alongside activity in other disciplines, including cricket. Hamdam’s next opponent will be determined by the tournament bracket.
