Kabul/Nuristan — Afghanistan’s defence ministry published images on September 28 and said Afghan security and defence forces had seized dozens of heavy and light weapons and ammunition in connection with the Kamdesh incident in Nuristan.

The ministry said the weapons were taken from people it described as Islamic State members and “elements of subversion”, whom it alleged had crossed into Nuristan from the Pakistan side of the Durand Line a day earlier.

The post did not provide a detailed weapons inventory, serial numbers or independently verifiable material establishing the provenance or ownership of the displayed weapons. The seizure and cross-border origin therefore remain reported as official ministry claims.

This is a new development in the same incident about which the Afghan defence ministry said on September 27 that 28 fighters were killed in Kamdesh. Reporting on the same event has contained conflicting figures: Reuters reported the ministry as saying 28 were killed and 32 wounded, Ariana News reported 28 killed and 32 captured, while Pajhwok cited Nuristan police saying 21 were killed and 32 captured.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Information rejected the Afghan allegations, denying involvement by Pakistani security or intelligence agencies, denying the recruitment or training of former Afghan security personnel, and rejecting claims that Pakistan facilitated Islamic State or other armed groups in Afghanistan.

The casualty figures, detainee status, allegations of cross-border backing and the provenance of the displayed weapons have not been independently verified. They are therefore presented as attributed official claims alongside Pakistan’s denial.
