Nuristan — Margalla News: Afghan security sources claim that 22 armed men were killed and 22 detained during an operation in Kamdish district of Nuristan on September 26 against a group said to have crossed into Afghanistan from the Pakistan side of the border.
The Afghan account says around 50 others expressed willingness to surrender and that weapons and ammunition were seized during the operation.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), however, has given a different account of the same fighting. It says the clashes were between its fighters and Taliban forces, that Taliban units attacked AFF positions with ground troops and drones, and that AFF later captured several Taliban checkpoints in a counter-attack.
Afghanistan International reported that a Taliban-linked outlet also acknowledged fighting in Kamdish, but said the casualty and territorial-control claims from the opposing sides could not be independently verified.
The figures of 22 killed, 22 detained and around 50 willing to surrender are therefore being reported as an Afghan-security-source claim, alongside the AFF's conflicting account.
