Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has called for broader economic and political relations between Afghanistan and Azerbaijan. In remarks reported from an interview with Azerbaijani media, he described Azerbaijan as a friendly country and said Kabul wants to deepen ties with Baku.
The statement follows recent contacts between business representatives and diplomats from the two countries. Afghanistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Investment said this month that its chairman and Azerbaijan’s ambassador discussed trade, joint investment and closer links between private-sector companies.
No new large bilateral investment package or trade agreement was announced with Mujahid’s remarks. The comments therefore represent Kabul’s stated policy preference for wider engagement, while the scale of future economic cooperation will depend on concrete agreements, business activity and transport links between the two markets.
