Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has called for an expansion of economic and political relations with Azerbaijan. Reporting on an interview with an Azerbaijani media outlet quoted him describing Azerbaijan as a friendly country and supporting broader ties.
Mujahid also discussed the current Afghan authorities' international diplomatic status and relations with other states. His remarks represent the government's stated position and did not amount to an announcement of a new bilateral treaty, diplomatic upgrade or major investment package.
Separately, the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment recently met Azerbaijan's ambassador in Kabul to discuss trade, joint investment, Afghan exports and links with fuel suppliers. For now, the latest development is best understood as continued political and commercial engagement rather than a newly concluded economic agreement.
