Afghan and Uzbek officials have discussed technical and financial problems affecting the Tuti Maidan gas block and agreed to continue joint efforts to resolve them.
A technical delegation led by Ahmad Jan, a senior petroleum adviser at Afghanistan’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, met Uzbekistan’s minister of mining and industry in Tashkent. The talks reviewed the status of the gas project and obstacles affecting implementation of its contract.
The Afghan side referred to an earlier 120-day period set by both sides to assess the problems and identify practical solutions. Uzbekistan said it was ready to assist with monitoring, financing and resolving technical and financial issues.
The gas field is located in Jowzjan province, with part extending into Faryab. Afghan officials said they would provide cooperation and coordination needed to support progress on the project.
