New Delhi/Kathmandu — Margalla News: The combined death toll from heavy rain, floods and landslides in India and Nepal has risen to 70.
Reuters' updated September 27 report said 56 people were killed and 46 injured in India's Uttar Pradesh state, while more than 1,000 houses were damaged. The state's relief commissioner said 66.5 mm of rain fell between September 25 and the morning of September 27, far above the normal amount for the period.
In Nepal, authorities reported 14 deaths and 11 people missing in floods, landslides and related incidents. Possible flash-flood warnings were issued for 49 of the country's 77 districts as water levels continued to rise in major rivers and tributaries.
Several rivers in India were above danger levels, while power and telecommunications were disrupted in parts of Nepal.
This is a casualty update to the same September 27 weather disaster. An earlier Reuters report had put the combined toll at 19 before authorities released higher figures.
