Tehran/Washington — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said negotiations are the path out of the current conflict with the United States and Israel, while stressing that Tehran's conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz remain in place.
Araghchi said Iran's conditions were clear and that any move toward reopening the waterway depended on those conditions being met. Iran has previously said it could move to reopen Hormuz if the United States eases military pressure and lifts restrictions or a blockade affecting Iranian ports.
U.S. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, said he had rejected an Iranian proposal that included reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending fighting.
The two governments therefore remain apart in their stated positions: Tehran is emphasizing diplomacy and conditional reopening, while Washington has not accepted the current Iranian proposal.
No new agreement or confirmed timetable for fully reopening the Strait has been announced.
