Washington/Kyiv — US President Donald Trump has announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning the supply of Russian diesel. The announcement comes amid debate in the United States and Europe over sanctions on Russian energy exports and the war in Ukraine.
According to an Associated Press report on October 10, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised the move, arguing that purchasing Russian energy could provide Moscow with resources to continue the war. US officials emphasised the potential benefits of lower energy prices and diplomatic engagement.
Further scrutiny is needed to establish whether energy deliveries have begun, whether specific sanctions rules have changed and what the full financial terms of the agreement are.
