Kabul — Representatives from Iran and Afghanistan have reached a preliminary understanding on allocating approximately 110 hectares of land for Afghan investment near the Chabahar port area. TOLOnews quoted Mohsen Zanganeh, head of an Iranian parliamentary commission, as saying the proposal is intended to facilitate port-related, trading and transit activities.

According to the report, the proposed area may include around 10 hectares of coastal land and more than 100 hectares in a special economic zone. Discussions about the practical details and availability of the site are continuing.

Chabahar could offer Afghan businesses an alternative route to the sea. However, the effectiveness of the route will depend on port facilities, financial services, sanctions, transport costs and legal approvals.

The arrangement remains preliminary and should not be reported as a completed land transfer, finished project or realised investment.
