Herat — Delegations from Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have discussed easier cross-border transport during two days of talks on expanding commercial and transit links.
According to TOLOnews, the meeting focused on moving goods through Torghundi, visas for drivers and traders, and administrative problems affecting road transport. Both sides reportedly agreed to establish a joint commission to address these issues.
The report also cited Turkmen delegates describing efforts to improve border facilities and roads. Afghan officials said greater use of the transit railway between the two countries had also been discussed.
Better trade routes could give Afghan exporters new opportunities, but the eventual benefits will depend on visa facilitation, border management, commercial demand and implementation of agreed measures.
