ISLAMABAD: According to Dawn, the Power Division said timely measures, including targeted load management, limited the projected fuel price adjustment (FPA) for September 2026 to Rs2.56 per unit, averting a potential hike of Rs5–6 per unit.
The Power Division said the increase was contained despite rising international fuel prices and LNG supply constraints, saving consumers an additional burden of up to Rs3.44 per unit. Targeted load management of about two to two-and-a-half hours in September reduced reliance on furnace oil and diesel, while supplying imported RLNG for power at domestic gas prices eased the burden by 83 paisa per unit.
The September FPA is expected to be Rs1.45 per unit higher than August's Rs1.11 adjustment, with an estimated financial impact of Rs32.7 billion on consumers' electricity bills in November 2026.
The statement cited fuel price increases linked to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the Middle East conflict, and said Pakistan sought spot cargoes after Qatar declared force majeure. It added that the combined impact of FCA and quarterly adjustments for January–August was limited to 65 paisa per unit, or 1.9% over the base tariff.
Separately, industrial consumers are contesting claims about the incremental consumption package, and the outcome of a NEPRA hearing is awaited. More on Dawn.
