Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is ready to accept foreign assistance to combat forest fires, described as the worst in more than a decade.

Foreign Minister Sugiono confirmed the matter is under discussion at a technical level at the BNPB disaster agency.

Haze from the fires has spread to Malaysia and Timor-Leste, where schools closed. Malaysia had offered three helicopters, one aircraft and 52 personnel last month.

The effects of forest fires can cross national borders and affect the whole region's health and daily life.
