Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said on Friday there would be no negotiations or concessions for elements who do not accept the Constitution, insisting that decisive action against terrorism and a stronger police force were the only way to restore peace in the province.

Kundi spoke to reporters in Charsadda after visiting the families of Counter-Terrorism Department DSP Imranuddin Khan and Constable Kazim Jan, who were killed during an operation against militants in Karak district on Thursday. Both were buried in their home villages with police honours on Friday.

The governor said the police needed modern weapons and equipment and that he was ready to divert funds from his own development allocation for the purpose. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, he said, had assured him that the federal government would provide the necessary weapons and money, while compensation for police killed on duty had been raised and salaries were being increased.

Later, at a news conference at Governor House in Peshawar, Kundi said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced a Rs160 billion package for the province at Thursday's apex committee meeting and ordered a meeting soon on gas and wheat issues. Tenders for packages one and four of the Chashma Lift Canal would be issued next month, he added. "If there is peace in the province, there will be development, and investment will also come from abroad," he said.
