Seven Afghan migrants were reported killed and nine people injured in a traffic collision in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province, according to Iranian reporting cited by Pajhwok Afghan News and a separate report by Ariana News. The crash occurred on Friday on a road in Sarbaz County in southeastern Iran.

Pajhwok, citing Iran’s Tasnim news agency and the HalVash rights group, said a Peugeot 405 carrying Afghan nationals collided head-on with a Zamyad vehicle transporting diesel. Iranian road police chief Siavash Mohbi was quoted as saying the collision occurred at about 8 a.m. on September 18 near the 15th kilometre of the Sarbaz road.

Tasnim reported seven deaths and nine injuries. HalVash said the people killed and injured included Afghan migrants and also reported that the drivers of the two vehicles were among the dead. The available accounts differ on the identities and nationalities of some casualties, and no complete official list had been published at the time of reporting.

The injured were taken to health facilities for treatment, according to the reports. No full official list of the victims had been published at the time of reporting. Families seeking information about relatives should therefore rely on consular, police or hospital channels rather than unverified social-media lists.

Road travel involving Afghan migrants in eastern Iran has repeatedly raised humanitarian and safety concerns, particularly on routes used by people moving between border regions and inland cities. The available reporting does not establish the legal status of the passengers’ journeys beyond the information provided by Iranian police and the cited sources.

Iranian police were reported to have identified the Peugeot’s movement into the opposite lane as the preliminary cause of the crash. That assessment is an initial police finding and could be revised if a fuller investigation produces additional evidence.

The incident comes amid a wider period of movement by Afghans between Iran and Afghanistan, including returns driven by economic pressure, migration enforcement and regional insecurity. Those broader issues provide context but are separate from the immediate cause of this crash.
