China surveys Broadcom switch use in state-backed data centres, FT reports

Chinese authorities are examining the use of Broadcom network switches in state-backed data centres as part of a broader push to strengthen domestic suppliers and reduce reliance on foreign AI infrastructure, according to a Financial Times report cited by Reuters. The report said China’s state-assets regulator had spent recent weeks surveying how widely Broadcom switches are deployed across state-controlled data centres. People familiar with the matter were cited as saying preliminary findings showed Broadcom hardware could account for a very large share of equipment in some facilities. Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report and that Broadcom and the Chinese regulator did not immediately comment. No formal ban, mandatory replacement order or final policy decision has been announced.
