Oil prices fell sharply on Friday, with Reuters reporting Brent crude down 3% at $99.25 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate down 4.25% at $88.92.

One major driver was discussion in Europe about releasing additional emergency diesel and crude stocks. A French proposal cited by Reuters involved 50 million barrels of diesel and 50 million barrels of crude from IEA-member reserves.

The reserve releases remain under discussion and are not being presented as a finalized or completed measure.
