The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf protest march led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reached Lachi tehsil of Kohat on Monday night, its second day, Dawn reported on October 6. According to Dawn, the marchers are due to head toward Peshawar on Tuesday, with the next overnight stay scheduled in Mattani on the outskirts of Peshawar.

The march follows weekend talks with the federal government that failed, Dawn reported, including disagreement over counterterrorism policy.

Thousands of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supporters continued a march toward Islamabad on October 5 under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, demanding the release of former prime minister Imran Khan and raising other concerns over access and medical treatment.

Reuters and the Associated Press reported that the convoy began in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after talks between PTI and the federal government failed. Authorities have tightened security around Islamabad, while both sides blame each other for the collapse of negotiations.

Separately, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. Dawn reported that they discussed the political and security situation and the constitutional possibility of governor's rule or an emergency.

No final decision to impose governor's rule has been announced. The option remains under discussion rather than in force.
