NEW YORK — Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa wrote verse 105 of Surah At-Tawbah in the United Nations Secretary-General’s guest book during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly and signed the entry.
The Arabic text he wrote begins: “And say: Act, and Allah will see your deeds, and His Messenger and the believers.” It is Quran 9:105.
Al Jazeera reported the entry on September 23, 2026 and published an image of the signed page. The same day, al-Sharaa addressed the General Assembly and spoke about efforts to unify Syria, rebuild state institutions and advance reconstruction over the previous year.
Near the end of his speech, al-Sharaa also referred to the Quranic verse, “Truth has come and falsehood has vanished; indeed, falsehood is bound to vanish.” Available speech records show him saying that he had recited the verse from the same rostrum, before speaking about continuing reconstruction and service to the Syrian people.
The guest-book entry is supported by the published report and image. A separate claim that no world leader had ever previously written a Quranic verse in the Secretary-General’s guest book could not be independently established from publicly available official records, so it is not presented here as a confirmed fact.
