Pakistan police have detained Aleema Khan, the sister of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, in Lahore ahead of a protest march planned by his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party for September 27. The PTI Punjab spokesperson said she was taken into custody in Lahore on Sunday, while Reuters and Al Jazeera both reported the arrest on September 20.
A notification issued by Lahore's district administration said Aleema Khan had been arrested and sent to jail for 30 days. The notice said authorities considered her presence in public a threat to public safety. Al Jazeera reported that the deputy commissioner ordered the detention under Punjab's Maintenance of Public Order law.
The detention comes one week before PTI's planned march to Islamabad, which the party says is intended to demand Imran Khan's release. Pakistan's interior minister, Mohsin Naqvi, said on Saturday that the government would take steps to stop the march.
PTI condemned Aleema Khan's detention and described it as unlawful. Al Jazeera reported that there was no immediate government comment on the arrest itself, while Reuters cited the district administration's detention notice. The situation remains developing and Margalla News will update this report as further official information becomes available.
