Islamabad — Iran is preparing to send a two-member technical team to Pakistan to inspect newly established hot-water treatment plants used for mango exports.
Dawn reported that the visit follows months of correspondence between Iranian authorities and Pakistan's Department of Plant Protection and would be the first such inspection of Pakistani facilities by Iranian officials in about three years.
The team is expected to assess plant equipment, treatment procedures and compliance with Iran's phytosanitary requirements.
Pakistani officials and exporters say approval of additional plants could expand Pakistan's capacity to export mangoes to Iran. That outcome remains prospective: the new facilities have not yet received final Iranian approval and additional export volumes have not yet been realised.
Iran is an important regional market for Pakistani mangoes, with overland access giving Pakistani exporters a logistical advantage.
