Indian investors are completing initial preparations for investment in construction-paint production in Kandahar, according to the provincial Chamber of Industries and Mines. Local industry representatives say discussions have focused on establishing production inside the province rather than relying only on imported products.
A newly opened local factory built with about $500,000 in investment produces around 800 paint buckets a day. Officials say five paint factories are now operating in Kandahar with combined investment of roughly $2 million and total daily output of about 25 tonnes.
Despite the expansion, local producers say domestic factories do not yet meet all demand for construction paint. Further investment could increase local supply, but production costs, access to raw materials, electricity and distribution will affect how quickly the sector can expand and compete with imports.
