Local production of construction paint is expanding in Kandahar, where industry officials say Indian investors are also completing early preparations for a manufacturing investment.
The Kandahar Chamber of Industries and Mines says five paint factories are currently operating in the province with combined investment of about $2 million and daily production of roughly 25 tonnes. Officials say existing output still does not meet the province's full demand.
A new factory established with an investment of about $500,000 has also started operations, producing around 800 paint buckets a day. Factory representatives say similar products were previously imported in larger volumes from neighbouring countries. Future growth will depend on access to raw materials, consistent quality, power supply and the ability of local producers to compete on price.
