Kohat — Investigators from the Counter-Terrorism Department say they have gathered new evidence about the movements of the attackers, alleged local facilitators and pre-attack reconnaissance in the September 18 assault on the old Police Lines.
According to investigation officials, the attackers used an explosives-laden vehicle, a rickshaw and a motorcycle to reach the Police Lines. Officials said the suicide attacker travelled in the rickshaw while two other attackers arrived on a motorcycle.
The investigation team says the attackers had reconnoitred the Police Lines several times before the assault and were carrying improvised explosive devices, hand grenades and heavy weapons.
Officials also said operations were continuing against alleged facilitators accused of providing accommodation to the attackers and helping them gain access to the Police Lines.
Important evidence has been sent for forensic analysis and the investigation remains ongoing. These details are current investigative findings and allegations; there has been no final judicial determination of facilitator responsibility.
The death toll from the September 18 attack later rose to 23, including 17 police officers and six civilians. Security forces said all eight attackers were killed during the subsequent operation.
